The Heart of Georgia Service Unit is looking for people to volunteer! You must first fill out a volunteer application at the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia council website. http://www.gshg.org/en/for-volunteers/why-volunteer.html
The Service Unit volunteers meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M. Contact Tina Skeen to get location information. [email protected]
We are always looking for troop leaders, but there are many ways to volunteer with Girl Scouts beyond being a troop leader. Other options:
Adopt-A-Camp Teams - These teams are focused on maintaining and improving the camps owned by the council. That includes coordinating and participating in Workdays at the camps and fundraisers for projects at the camps. The council owns 4 camp properties. Camp Martha Johnston in Lizella, GA, is the one closest to our service unit. Anyone interested in being a part of the Adopt-A-Camp Team for Camp Martha Johnston should reach out to the team at [email protected].
Event Coordinator - The service unit team and the council need people to organize events for girls to attend. These events can be focused on specific badges, Journeys, or other kinds of skills. If you have knowledge you'd like to share or an event idea then contact Program Director/Assistant Camp Director Haley Hall at the council at [email protected]. There is a training course you must take before you can host an event.
Trainers - Girl Scouts provides training to our volunteers in many knowledge areas. Trainers are needed in areas such as Red Cross First-Aid/CPR, Archery, Small Watercraft Safety, and Outdoor Skills.
Lifeguarding - Multiple Girl Scouts properties have pools, and any Girl Scout gathering with a pool needs to have a lifeguard present, whether on a Girl Scout property or at a private property.
Volunteering with the girls is a reward in itself, but we also like to recognize the adults who make all the girls do possible. Here is a link to the adult recognition form. Any adult in Girl Scouts can fill out this form to recognize the contributions of other volunteers. Please note that the link will download a PDF form to your computer. www.gshg.org/content/dam/girlscouts-gshg/documents/volunteer/adult-recognitions/Volunteer%20Service%20Pin.pdf
